Its flowers and leaves have decorated architectural details in sculpting and painting including column capitals, friezes, and tile works. Its extensive use was at its height during the Roman empire and its elegance has been considered "Classical" ever since - indeed, the Romans were copying the earlier classical Greeks in their use of this element.
The Wilton Armetale Acanthus series was originally designed and sculpted by Mr. Stan Baskett and introduced in the fall of 1994. It captures the grandeur of old-world Europe with the practicality of modern American lifestyles. It fits comfortably into environments influenced by Classic and Traditional styles and is adaptable in a wide variety of others.
